Welcome

Mary Immaculate College is a university-level College of Education and the Liberal Arts.  It is a dynamic institution which has built on a long contribution to Irish education stretching back to its foundation as a College of teacher education in 1898.  It is now the largest university-level Catholic college in the State.

The College is located on a prime site with attractive mature parkland.  Some of the older College buildings are culturally and architecturally significant, giving expression to the heritage and tradition of the institution.  As a city-based institution, located at the heart of Limerick City and in close proximity to a range of other educational providers, MIC is an essential component and contributor to the educational fabric of the city.  As the only College of Education located outside the Dublin area, MIC offers a range of outreach programmes throughout the midlands, west and south of Ireland.

In recent years, the College has diversified significantly and with rapid growth in the range of programmes offered both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, the number of students has grown to over 3,000.   This enormous growth has required significant investment in the College’s infrastructure.  The first phase of investment involving some €40,000,000 was completed in 2010.

The College now needs to look forward and make provision for the next phase of development for the future and develop a better environment for both learning and research, continuing to attract some of the best students in Ireland, while also making the campus attractive to an international market.
